The time I utterly failed at making a smoothie…and almost died in the process…

Once upon a time, my roommate Amy and I were in the middle of an intense study sesh. All of a sudden, we realized that we were both jonesing for a nice cool, refreshing strawberry smoothie. So we did what any responsible college student would do: ditched studying and got to work on that craving!

We scoured the tiny fridge in search of rations. Together, we were able to produce vanilla yogurt, milk, strawberries, and ice (well really the freezer produced that but same diff!). Next, we pulled out our trusty blender and got to work.

In went the strawberries, and the yogurt….next came the ice and some milk. Life seemed great. Fairy-tale like even….until Amy shrieked and I looked at the blender, only to see massive liquid draining onto the counter and splashing us in the process. We discovered that the bottom of the stupid blender wasn’t screwed on quite tight enough. Clearly not our fault......ahem.

*please ignore my retainer and lack of make-up…it was past mid-night…and unfortunately, I need beauty sleep :)

We fixed the problem and keep pushing forward. Finally, our hard-work was about to pay off. We were practically drooling at the though of drinking our wonderful concoction. We clinkled classes and smiled at each other as we took a sip. Words cannot express how great  freakin’ nast that smoothie was! Can you guess what the problem was?………yep, the milk was spoiled!

Ok, I’m going to let ya’ll in on a little tidbit about me. I HATE milk. Like I cannot drink it without chocolate or something in it. I can occasionally deal if I am drinking it with cake or something…but if not, I gag and get the hebejebbes.

So couple that hate of milk with the fact that our smoothie had been CONTAMINATED with spoiled milk, and you can imagine that I was a very unhappy girl.

Being the strong, hungry girls that we were….we weren’t going to let that little roadblock get in our way! We tossed the vom-inducing smoothie down the sink and after thoroughly washing the blender, got started on round 2.

This time we played it safe and used just ice. We cautiously lifted the glass to our mouths and finally destroyed that craving.

While ideally it would have been nice not to have to go through these problems just to make a smoothie….I’m glad that it happened this way. I will always remember almost peeing my pants from laughing so hard. I am also happy that I did not die from spoiled milk poisoning (scientific huh?) Today, Amy is one of my closest friends and I am grateful for the fun that she adds to my life :)

What is one of your favorite college memories?

The time I cried as the toilet overflowed….

Once upon a time, I woke-up realizing that I had to pee. I had to be at work in a couple of hours and as much as I tried to roll over and ignore having to go, I couldn’t. (Am I the only one that does this? I just don’t like leaving my nice warm bed).

So, I drag myself outta bed and go about my business. Upon getting ready to flush the toilet, I notice that something is very wrong. The water keeps rising…and rising..and I realize the toilet is going to overflow. I rush to turn the little knobby thing that stops the water, but it is too late. Water comes gushing over the side of the toilet onto the floor. It also drenches anything that happens to be on said floor, namely the rugs, the bottom of my freaking pants, and my feet! I scream out of frustration and disgust, then remember that it is 4 am and my roommates would probably like to sleep. Then I remember that the clogged toilet was probably caused by one of my roommates…and I no longer care if I wake anyone up. I know, not one of my finest moments, but what can I say, it was a tense time (Ellie or Alexa, if you are reading this, I apologize if I woke you up…I am thinking rationally now).

So in order to prevent myself from:

a) ripping my hair out
or
b) yelling obscenities (jk..I promise!) ……..

…I decide to cry instead…because tears are the logical solution to my problem. Once I am done feeling sorry for myself over the fact that I am covered in toilet water and that I am not going to get to go back to sleep, I devise a strategy. I decide to first deal with my pants. I figure that there is not point in changing them until I deal with the mess, so I just roll them up and tell myself that the water should be clean. Then I go into the laundry room, grab some buckets, a mop, and floor cleaner… and go back to the torture chamber.

I gather up the sopping rugs and place them in a bucket. I start mopping up the floor, and once the water is gone, I start to work on unclogging the toilet. At this point, my roommate Shyler woke up and came into the bathroom. She heard me plunging and thought that I was throwing up, so she being the sweetie that she is, came to check on me. The moment we look at each other, we both die laughing. I’m talking big, belly laughs. The kind of laughs that make your whole body shake. She rolls up her pants and starts to help me. The next 45 minutes, or so, were spent spent laughing, crying, and doing some serious disinfecting.

(WARNING. It is about to get sappy here. If you cannot handle cheesiness, it is probably time to leave)

This will forever be one of my best college memories. I won’t remember the anger I felt at the mess. Instead, I will remember laughing until my stomach hurt and the feeling of a burden being made light through the help of a good friend. All of my friends are so important to me because they make not only the fun times memorable, but the bad times as well. They help me find the silver lining when all I can see are the clouds. So to all of my friends, thanks for putting up with my shenanigans, “you da, you da best!”.

Some of my besties :)
